Diabetes research
The Diabetes Research ETS Foundation (DRF), has been operating
according to its mission statement, since its constitution in the early
2000s, and throughout the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Operations mainly consisted of harvesting and donating funds to the University of Perugia, in order to implement research activities, together with diagnostic-therapeutic applications for type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

The DRF
In addition to providing significant support for diabetes research, DRF aims at playing a relevant role in organizing medical education initiatives to favor dissemination of knowledge about diabetes and its severe chronic complications.
Research
Diabetes research
Scientific research activities are based primarily on development of advanced technologies for the cure of T1D, in conjunction with production of scientific and educational material for both, prevention and good clinical practice standards for type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
The project, physically conducted at the Laboratory for Endocrine Cell Transplantation and Biohybrid Organs, Department of Medicine and Surgery, University of Perugia, within the signed agreement between University of Perugia and DRF, aims at developing a cure for T1D through different cellular and molecular therapy approaches with complementary mechanisms of action, in order to achieve the desired outcome.
DRF boasts numerous collaborations with organizations engaged in diabetes prevention and research, mainly and in particular, with the University of Perugia, but also with companies particularly interested on issues related to diabetes treatment, including management of its chronic complications.
