The Foundation

Historical Overview and Mission Statement

The Foundation was established in 1995, with Prof. Paolo Brunetti being the first appointed President. 

Founding members were: Dr. Giancarlo Antonioni; Prof. Paolo Brunetti; Prof. Fausto Santeusanio; Eng. Luciano Fioroni; Dr. Elvio Temperini; Eng. Enzo Briziarelli; Mr. Arnaldo Monini. 

Founding firms were: Marinelli Augusto S.p.A. di Marinelli Antonio, FIN-CAVE S.p.A., Marinelli S.p.A., Garofoli S.p.A., Arnaldo Caprai Gruppo Tessile S.p.A., Smail s.r.l., Leonardo Servadio S.p.A., Association of Industrialists of the Province of Perugia, Construction Workers Union of the Province of Perugia, Cassa di Risparmio di Perugia Foundation, Association of Italian Lions for Diabetes (A.I.L.D.). In 2004, Dr. Brunello Cucinelli became President until 2012, when Prof. Fausto Santeusanio took him over until 2022. The actual new President, appointed by the Board of Directors on May 23, 2022, is Prof. Riccardo Calafiore.

The original by laws were amended in the meeting of May 23rd, 2022, to comply with the new regulations for the third sector.

DRF, in addition to providing crucial support for diabetes research, plays an important role in organizing informational initiatives to promote the dissemination of knowledge about diabetes and the prevention of its complications. 

DFR boasts numerous collaborations with entities dedicated to diabetes prevention and research, particularly with the University of Perugia, as well as with companies particularly sensitive to issues related to diabetes therapy and its chronic complications, such as microangiopathic skin lesions from neuropathy and diabetic arteriopathy.
